Horror Month 2026
WEEK 3

Carrie – I don’t really see the point in them just remaking the movie again. They try to add interviews, stuff like that from the book, but the 2013 remake did that as well. Sure it was all cut from the movie, but still. There’s a lot to go over with this series, things I liked and things I really didn’t. In the book, Carrie was pretty unlikable, she was fat, had bad skin and acted a lot like her mother towards the other kids. Which is why they hated her and picked on her and that’s why they dumped pig’s blood over her. In the series, Carrie is none of those things, in fact she’s pretty damn adorable. She has this pouty lower lip thing going on, it’s like bullying a puppy. Because it’s a series, they have to stretch everything out, what are the teachers up to, what’s going on with Carrie’s bullies or what is Carrie’s mom doing at work, for most of it I didn’t care. I also didn’t care much for what they did with Carrie’s mom, making her less crazy and more just over protective. The other issue has to do with the ending. There was no way this version of Carrie could ever do a massacre at school, so they took control away, putting blame on someone else. I guess since this was a series with several seasons, having the main character essentially be a school shooter wouldn’t be a great idea. But the show kind of misses the point by cleaning her hands of any wrongdoing. Even the “massacre” was pretty tame. However, I did enjoy the weird dance sequence of Carrie just dancing down the street as everything burns. I’m feeling like a RENT.

Don’t Move – I really liked the cast, I’d gladly watch anything with Rob Riggle and Tom Cavanagh in it. This movie is the definition of just okay. However, it does have a good twist ending that I wanted to see more of if this ever gets a sequel. I really didn’t care much for the start of the film, it felt rushed and overly cheesy to get you to care about her husband and child burning to death on a ride at a county fair. And then they spend way too much time on getting everything setup for this dumb bus trip. And it takes forever to get them moving. They also introduce this drug deal subplot that felt unneeded and didn’t really go anywhere. The giant spider VFX wasn’t too bad and it had some okay gore. You’d get a big CGI blood burst whenever the spider ate someone. It’s worth a RENT.

Hope – Almost 3 hours long and still the movie doesn’t have an ending. The first hour is our main character doing his best to catch up to whatever is destroying their town, only witnessing the destruction it leaves. And then it is nonstop action with townsfolk so heavily armed you’d think this was a small town in America. The film loves to show off it’s action and set pieces, but does very little in character development. We really have no idea who any of these characters are. We get a glimpse at why the aliens are here and what they want, but by then the film is over, baiting us for a sequel. I still fully enjoyed this movie and would happily watch another one. SEE IT!

Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon – Can we just stop making sequels to films 10 years later? They’re never any good. I was really excited for this one, as I am a fan of the first film, even though I barely remember much about it. As a horror comedy, this failed the test as most if not all the jokes fell flat. There are a few moments that managed to get a chuckle out of me but not enough to even really consider the movie funny. As for the gore, yeah that they do deliver. There’s a montage of dick bashing, dick slicing, you name it and it was done to dicks in this. RENT.

Hallowarrior – This is another Shudder original, I was kind of on the fence with this one after watching the trailer, but I wanted to give it a chance and well, it kind of sucked. I kept hoping for some kind of twist, like every year this girl invites people over to her house for Halloween, only for it to be an inescapable death trap. Or hell, maybe she’s a ghost and these drugged out cannibals get into more than they can chew. But nope, it’s basically a generic home invasion movie but set in the wasteland apocalypse where everyone is dead from some virus. It just felt like wasted potential, like there were a million original things they could have done, but chose none of it. It did have some okay kills, but not enough to really recommend it. SKIP.

Crawlers – This makes the third killer spider movie I’ve seen this month and the second on this list. The main issue with this film is I didn’t think it was very original. Killer spiders invade this apartment complex. I’ve seen this movie with rats, gremlins, a poop monster like in Scared Shitless and also just killer spiders. This wasn’t terrible, I really didn’t care much for any of the characters, as a majority of them are made to be super unlikable. But even our lead is hard to take. The spider VFX were pretty good, they did a nice job color coding each bigger spider, so you could tell which one got squashed. Its funny because just like Don’t Move, this too ends in a hospital, setting up a sequel. I’m not sure I really care all that much for another one though. RENT.

Recommendation of the week: Hope.
