An excerpt from my script review for 28 Days Later which will be available 07/16/25:
1.) Marketability of the Idea
Tying into the Capn’s review of the 28 Years Later, thought it would be cool to take a look at the original script.
Maybe it’s because it’s my type of horror flick, but I’m unsure why this first installment gets so much hate.
Was chatting at people who watched 28 Years Later (which we’re almost at by the way with this first film coming out in 2002) at work, and they all said they hated this first film, and that it was dumb.
We were actually having a discussion, as the Jurassic Park marathon was on, of whether we’d want a zombie apocalypse or dinosaurs to come back. Naturally the questions was, “What type of zombies? 28 Days Later/World War Z fast zombies or Walking Dead slow ass zombies?”
I picked dinosaurs because sure they’re scary but you’d get to see dinosaurs. Zombies are just dead humans, and scary aside, I’ve already seen humans.
What would you pick? Zombies or dinosaurs? Leave a comment below.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the pilot for Walking Dead borrow heavily from Jim waking up in hospital?
(There was a video somewhere on YouTube that does side by side comparisons, but of course I can’t find it right now.)
Again, maybe it’s because I’m a wuss when it comes to horror films, but I thought this script played out really well, beats, pacing, and length.
Anyway, in terms of marketability, this film is marketable particularly because it created a franchise.
Does the Cap’n remember them all? No, but he certainly went to see them!
