An excerpt from my script review for Noah which will be available 04/23/25:

1.) Marketability of the Idea

Noah is chosen by God to undertake a momentous mission before an apocalyptic flood cleanses the world.

What I like about this story is it merges the ideas of evolution and creationism.

That’s my one gripe about religion in all forms, is that if you take a collection of stories passed down from generation to generation by flawed mankind, don’t be surprised if someone challenges your beliefs.

Did you know there are around 200 denominations of Christianity is just the US alone?

That’s a lot of misinterpretation of the Chosen Word…

Growing up in a Christian family, Methodist to be exact, sure I heard about Noah who built his ark, taking two of each and every animal onto it (except dragons, unicorns, and griffins who were off fucking around on that day), along with his family and sailed for forty days and forty nights before a dove brought back a branch from an olive tree to let them know the waters were receding…

Where? Well don’t think too much about that.

Just like you shouldn’t think too much about how, like Adam and Eve, mankind repopulated from a single family, and in this case, one adopted daughter outside the gene pool.

The Bible is a collection of stories meant to teach us lessons and inspire us to be better people, at least if you ask yours truly.

That’s why I like how this story presents everything, and we’ll get into it more in the next section, but similar to the newer Batman movies, it makes the implausible (semi) plausible.

At least enough for the audience to think, “I could see how this could happen…”

For instance Noah’s story about the beginning of time. He takes the story presented in Genesis, but works in the idea of single-celled evolution, up through the sea, to dinosaurs and early man.

Religion of Genesis…science of evolution and natural selection expanded over centuries.

Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that God is real.

No denomination in particular, just a higher power that created everything.

What would constitute a “day” for the Almighty?

24 hours? A year? A millennia?

According to yours truly, again, we probably can’t wrap our underutilized little brains around it.

So…getting back to the point of this section, sure this is a religious story, and some people may shy away from that, but it’s not a preachy religious story in that it’s looking to “win you over”.

It’s a story, and an interesting one that should entertain audiences from all backgrounds.
